Assets under management of fund managers in the UK increased by 12% in 2009 to £4.1 trillion, just 1% short of record highs from two years earlier. Strong investment performance and an inflow of new funds during the year, particularly from retail clients, contributed to the recovery of the industry. The UK is the second largest fund management market after the US. It is by far the biggest centre in Europe. London continues to be the leading international centre for fund management with over a third of its funds under management from overseas.
