In 2018, attendance of primary schools by children aged six to 13 years in South Africa was highest in North West, at 93.4 percent. Free State and Northern Cape followed at 93.2 and 92.6 percent, respectively. Comparatively, Gauteng was the province with the highest share of children in this age group who were not attending primary education, at 11.4 percent.
