Between May and September 2023, around 2,800 people in South Korea were diagnosed with heat-related illnesses as reported by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). This was more than 1,000 cases compared to the previous year. The summer of 2018 saw a major heatwave across Northeast Asia, leading to an abnormally high amount of patients suffering from heat-related diseases.
