During 2023, the number of pupils in grades one to six amounted to almost 360,000, while the number of pupils in grades seven to nine was around 192,000. Only two pupils attended the additional 10th grade in order to improve their school leaving certificate from comprehensive school.

Comprehensive schools are schools providing compulsory nine-year general education. These include lower comprehensive school grades 1-6 and upper comprehensive school grades 7-9.

* 10th grade is a voluntary year of comprehensive school for pupils, who want to enhance their studying skills and improve their school leaving certificate. Unlike in previous years, the figures on additional education also include pupils in educational institution categories 15, 21 and 63 starting from 2020.
