CEOs' assessment of their CMOs in the U.S. 2021-2023

In 2023, approximately 40 percent of chief executive officers (CEOs) surveyed in the United States reported believing their chief marketing officers (CMOs) were best in class. Two years earlier, that share stood at 21 percent. Meanwhile, the share of CEOs thinking their CMOs underperformed dropped from 24 percent in 2021 to 11 percent in 2023. According to the same study, U.S. CEOs expected marketing to help them create new customers, retain existing ones, and drive revenue growth.
