Overweight and obesity prevalence in adults in Mexico 2012-2021, by BMI scores
Between 2012 and 2021, overweight prevalence among adults declined in Mexico. During that period, the prevalence of adults with overweight decreased by around three percentage points, going from 38.8 percent to 35.7 percent of those surveyed. Meanwhile, obesity prevalence grew in all its categories through the analyzed period, with obesity type one reaching about 23.6 percent of adults in Mexico. A person is considered as having obesity if their body mass index (BMI) is equal to or greater than 30 kg/m².
