Credit refusal in the U.S. 2022, by race and family income

Black people applying for credit in the United States in 2022 had higher denial rates than any other group. That year, 58 percent of black respondents with a family income of less than 50,000 U.S. dollars had their loan applications denied or approved for less money than requested. Those rates were significantly higher than for White applicants. However, applicants in the lowest income group got denied more than applicants in the highest income group, regardless of their race.
