Coal imports in Spain 2011-2022
Overall, the volume of coal imported by Spain decreased between 2012 and 2022. By 2021, imports had been reduced to approximately 5.3 million metric tons, which represents a decrease of over 15 million metric tons in comparison with 2012. However, coal imports rose in 2022, reaching almost 10 million metric tons. All coal mines closed in Spain in January 1st 2019, although some coal-fired power plants continued operation with imported coal.
