Plastic packaging municipal waste recycled in the U.S. 1980-2018, by product
The most recycled plastic packaging type in the United States are PET bottles and jars. In 2018, some 910,000 tons of PET bottles and jars were reported as recycled in the North American country, accounting for roughly 29 percent of the total PET bottles and jars waste generated that year. The U.S. produced a total of 14.53 million tons of plastic packaging waste in 2018.
