The Recession of 1973-1975 and the economic instability of the following decade resulted in Western Europe's foreign trade fluctuating significantly between 1973 and 1983. West Germany's exports saw the largest level of fluctuation, at 11.5 percent, although Dutch imports showed the largest variations.
