U.S. neonatal and postneonatal mortality rates from 1995 to 2021
In 2021, there were around 5.44 infant deaths in the U.S. per 1,000 live births. The postneonatal mortality rate that year was 1.95 per 1,000 live births. Leading causes of infant mortality in the U.S. include congenital malformations, disorders related to short gestation and low birthweight, maternal complications, and sudden infant death syndrome.
