Transportation-related nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from fossil fuel combustion in the United States totaled 16.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. This represents a decrease of roughly 57 percent when compared to 1990 levels.
