Refineries and power plants had the highest average greenhouse gas emissions per reporter in the United States in 2022. That year, 1,322 power plant facilities in the U.S. emitted 1.59 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e), averaging 1.19 MtCO₂e per reporter.
