According to the graph, monthly motorcycle production in a year is always lowest in February, partially relating to the Chinese New year around that time. As for motorcycle sales, February is also the lowest month with a historical low at 0.83 million units in February 2019. Since 2008, China’s motorcycle industry has seen a steady decline. Comparing the height of over 27.5 million annual sales back in 2010, only a mere of 17 million motorcycles had been sold in China in 2019. In relation, motorcycle sales in the United States had totaled to approximately 457 million sold units in the same year.
Motorcycle ownership in China
As of 2018, about 19 motorcycles per 100 households had been owned in China, having declined from 24 motorcycles in 2014. Region with highest ownership of motorcycles is Guangdong, with over 66 motorcycles per 100 households, where the Guangxi and Tibet also boast over 60. Da Changjiang and Loncin have been the most successful motorcycle manufacturers in China. In February 2019, Da Changjiang and Loncin had generated a total sales volume of 93,100 and 58,700 units, respectively.
