Combustion plants were the biggest contributor to verified emissions covered by the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) in 2023, having emitted almost 650 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Emissions from fuel combustion, which mainly come from the power sector, accounted for roughly 60 percent EU ETS stationary installation emissions in 2023.
