Share of main constraints preventing intra-African trade 2022
According to a survey conducted between March and June 2022, most CEOs in Africa reported that the lack of access to information on markets, opportunities, and trading partners were the main issues preventing export trade within the region. A lower respondent share of 9.6 percent also indicated that risks of counterparty payments could block intra-African export trade. In May 2019, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement officially entered into force after 22 African countries had ratified it. It aimed at facilitating trade within the continent.
