Important barriers to owning a mobile phone in India 2021, by gender
A survey conducted in India in 2021 found that some of the most important barriers for the survey respondents to own a mobile phone were affordability of the handset or SIM cost, and reading or writing difficulties. Even though mobile phones are almost equally relevant to both genders, there was still a significant gender gap within these two categories. This could be due to women’s lack of financial autonomy and resources, and lower literacy rate.
