A survey conducted in January 2021 revealed that parties and gatherings among family and friends was considered the main risk factor for a resurgence of COVID-19 in Peru. With a higher percentage than other age groups, over 47 percent of respondents aged 56 or older agreed with this statement; while less than 42 percent of the age group from 25 to 39 years old also agreed. People aged 18 to 24 gave more importance to the use of face masks than any other age group, with almost 24 percent of respondents. Maintaining the minimum distance between people, on the other hand, was mostly deemed a major risk factor in the 40-55 age group, at over 20 percent.
