The annual gross profit of Shoprite Holdings added up to approximately 35.3 billion South African rand (around 2.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2019, marking an increase from the previous year. The South African Shoprite Group opened its first warehouse in 1979 and has since expanded to become one of the most successful retailers on the African continent and the Indian Ocean Islands.
