Infant mortality in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1955-2020
Between 1955 and 1990, Bosnia and Herzegovina's infant mortality rate fell from 189 deaths per thousand births to less one tenth of this level. The death rate among infants in 1990 was 18 deaths per thousand live births, which meant that approximately 1.8 percent of all newborns were not expected to make it to their first birthday. This number remained the same throughout the early 1990s, due to the impact of the Bosnian War, however it then proceeded to fall once more, and today it is just seven deaths per thousand births.
