Distribution of function in news articles in Sweden 2018, by gender
In Sweden in 2018, most of the experts who appeared in news articles were men. In detail, 72.1 percent of the experts were men, whereas only 27.2 percent were women. The same pattern of female underrepresentation appeared in regards to citing spokespersons and professionals in news articles. The difference in representation was only smaller when quoting civilians. Here, 46.1 percent were women, as opposed to 53.2 percent men.
