U.S. adults that were currently uninsured 2001-2018, by time uninsured
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was implemented in the U.S. in March of 2010. One of the goals of the ACA was to reduce the amount of time that U.S. residents went without health insurance coverage. As of 2018, 54 percent of the currently uninsured adults in the U.S. had been uninsured for more than two years. This is a decrease from 2012 when 72 percent of uninsured adults had been uninsured for more than 2 years.
