Number of passenger kilometers on national railways in Great Britain 2000-2023
In Great Britain, while the distance of journeys made with season tickets and ordinary fares increased until the 2019/20 financial year, a considerably higher number of kilometers were traveled with ordinary fares than with season tickets. In the 2020/21 financial year, numbers dropped due to the national lockdowns linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 9.9 billion kilometers were traveled with ordinary fares, compared to 2.5 billion with season tickets. After 2021, the numbers inclined again, reaching 46.7 billion for ordinary fares and 5 billion for season tickets.
