GHG emissions in transportation sector in Turkey 1990-2020, by mode of transportation
In 2020, the Turkish transportation sector released some 80.7 million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent (mt/CO₂e). That year, road transportation accounted for the country's most transport-related carbon dioxide emissions, with 76.6 million mt/CO₂e. In contrast, the railway sector generated less CO₂ than other transportation sectors, amounting to 323,000 mt/CO₂e. This is mostly related to the country's increased number of electrified railway lines.
