Canada's energy sector produced 543 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2021, up from some 532 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂eq) in the previous year. When compared to 1990 levels, energy-related emissions in the North American country increased by roughly 15 percent.
