Coal consumption in Mexico amounted to 250 petajoules in 2022, an increase of over 26 percent in comparison to the previous year. The coal consumption in 2021 amounted to 200 petajoules and was the lowest figure reported for the country since at least 2009. In contrast, the consumption of this fossil fuel in Mexico reached the peak of the period in 2017, at 640 petajoules.
