Respondents who viewed the sugar tax as detrimental Singapore 2019 by income level
According to a survey conducted in Singapore in July 2019, around 30 percent of the respondents who were low-income earners were of the view that the implementation of a sugar tax would be detrimental. By comparison, 24 percent of the respondents who were high-income earners thought that the sugar tax implementation would be detrimental. In December 2018, the Singaporean Ministry of Health began a consultation exercise to seek the public's feedback on measures to fight diabetes, which included a ban on high-sugar packet drinks and the implementation of a sugar tax in Singapore.
