The Connected Car market covers the sale of hardware for connected vehicles. These include the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)-side equipment of cars with systems that enable connectivity to the Internet (“embedded telematics”), hardware which increases security as well as assistance systems that support the driver. Alongside equipment, which is paid for once upon purchase of the vehicle, services which are applicable for monthly or annual fees are also included in the Connected Car market e.g. real-time navigation and entertainment services.

A car is considered “connected” if it was designed in the factory to have direct access to the Internet and, thus it is possible for the car to interact with other Connected Cars, Smartphones and the environment as well as to exchange information.

The following are not included in the Connected Car market: B2B services (e.g. telematics for fleet management), commercial vehicles or After-Sales market, in which cars are “connected” retrospectively.
